Hip injection
Injection of a local anaesthetic and
steroids into the hip joint. It can be used as a diagnostic procedure to
confirm the diagnosis of hip osteoarthritis (sometimes, it is not clear
whether pain is coming from the osteoarthritic hip or back).
It is also used in the conservative treatment of hip osteoarthritis when
surgery is too risky (e.g. patient is grossly overweight or has
significant heart or lung disease) or not indicated (e.g. patient is too
young for the joint replacement).
