Lumbar Sympathectomy
An injection around the nerves which run
down the front of the spine. This particular group of nerves, called the
sympathetic nerves, can sometimes give rise to pain in the limbs, and
often other sensations such as feeling cold and clammy, and changes in
colour can also occur.
These nerves also control the blood
supply to the limbs. Patients who have burning/stabbing type of leg/foot
pain, especially after surgery or trauma can improve after this
procedure. Another group of patients who are likely to benefit from
Lumbar Sympathectomy are those suffering from an advanced vascular
disease.
