Pulsed radiofrequency denervation (PRF)
PRF is a procedure used to bring a long
term pain relief to those demonstrated good but short lived response to
a local anaesthetic injection. An electrical current produced by a radio
wave is used to heat up a small area of nerve tissue, thereby decreasing
pain signals conducted by a sensory nerve. This procedure has a lower
incidence of side effects in comparison to the conventional
radiofrequency lesioning.
